Frequently asked questions

Do I need any technical skills?
No. If you can copy and paste your FTP details, the tool does the rest. The free scan needs nothing but your web address.
Is my password safe?
Yes. It’s encrypted while in use, never written to disk in readable form, never logged, and wiped when you disconnect. See Is it safe? and Security details.
Will it download or copy my website?
No. It only reads a few small configuration and log files needed to diagnose the issue. It never bulk-downloads your content or touches your database. See What it will never do.
Could it make things worse?
Every change is backed up on your own server first and can be undone with one click. The tool renames things rather than deleting them.
What does the token do?
It’s your proof of purchase and unlocks repairs for one website. The first site you use it on is the only site it will work for.
Can I use one token on several sites?
No — one token, one website. Need to fix more than one site? Buy a token for each.
My host only offers SFTP, not FTP. Will it work?
Not yet. The current version supports FTP and secure FTPS. SFTP support is planned.
It says it can’t find WordPress. Why?
Your FTP account may be pointing at the wrong folder, or WordPress is installed in a subfolder. Make sure the account can see the folder containing wp-load.php.
It found a database connection error. Can it fix that?
It can read your settings and tell you what looks wrong, but database problems usually need your host’s control panel. We’ll point you in the right direction.
What happens to the backup folder?
It stays on your server in wp-repair-backups. Once your site is working and you’re happy, you can delete it.
Do you keep access to my site afterward?
No. The tool installs nothing and has no way to reconnect. For total certainty, use a temporary FTP account and delete it when done.
What if it can’t fix my site?
It will tell you honestly and explain what it found. See our guarantee & refunds policy.
